17. I Really Hope that God CAN’T Do Miracles Today

I remember once that I tried to ‘pray away’ a curry stain on my trousers! I was really serious (and about 12 years old!). They were my favourite corduroys (OMG) that I really wanted to wear out and that stain really upset me! Yes, I was that weird a kid! I emerged a disillusioned, but somewhat wiser boy after that day.

But I mean it when I say, I hope God can’t do miracles today. To be clear I mean PHYSICAL miracles: stop a tsunami wave, heal a broken bone or make a million pounds appear in my bank account! I sincerely hope there is NOT a secret prayer, or special spiritual formula that would allow me to ‘unlock’ a physical miracle from the ‘hand of God’.

My Teacher in this lesson has been History itself and as always it is in the extremes that we find the clearest message. The horrors that some have had to endure, or that now do endure are frankly utterly unimaginable for me. Forgive my brutal logic, but I ask myself:

Could I pray more fervently, scream out more passionately than the millions of Holocaust victims? Yet for them the miracle didn’t come.

Right now, at this very moment, somewhere, some small child is being subjected to unspeakable acts by a sexual predator? Could I be more helpless, more desperate, more in need of help? Yet almost certainly for that child the miracle will not come today.

Should it therefore be possible that for a ‘select group’ of people these miracles be available, but for others, no matter the horrors, no matter the depth and sincerity of the plea for help, the miracle is withheld? What sort of iGod (interpretation of God) would do this? Hence, I really do hope that God can’t do physical miracles today: logically I would have a real problem with it.

Personally, instead I believe that WE are God’s miracle workers, if it has to be done, then WE have to do it.

IF TYRANNY NEEDS FIGHTING,

IF JUSTICE NEEDS TO BE BROUGHT ABOUT,

IF HUNGER NEEDS FEEDING,

IT IS US,

WE HUMANS,

THAT ARE THE INSTRUMENTS OF CHANGE.

NO EXCUSES,

IF WE SEE IT, WE MUST DO IT.

THE EXPANSION OF LOVE (COMPASSION) MUST BE THROUGH US.

ONE HUMAN AT A TIME.

Bear with me,

APOLOGIES

1. Again, apologies to 'non-religious' people. The talk of miracles and God must be really annoying, but I am sure you agree fully with the sentiments here. Also feel free to ignore the more religious stuff below!

2. Apologies to religious people if this offends. A few things:

A) To be clear the word TODAY is extremely relevant in what I have said, and is not a commentary on the miracles of Jesus - an utterly and uniquely different topic.

B) What I believe is, for my mind, fully in keeping with ‘The Kingdom of God is Within You’: the expansion of God’s reign or sphere of influence.

C) Do I not believe in the ‘miraculous’? Quite the contrary, I am so excited by the power of human change that is possible, the depth of spiritual restoration available, the wisdom, insight, direction, clarity, strength, forgiveness, grace, hope and Love that is just a prayer away!

D) For information only. My logic is based on the two extreme historical examples above: if iGod is Good, They Should, They Didn’t, therefore They ‘Can’t’. Why an all powerful being ‘Can’t', today, is another thought process.

E) I am aware this will be uncomfortable for many, THIS IS JUST MY WAY OF TRYING TO INTERPRET THE WORLD AS IT IS. I am always open for guidance and direction and keen for feedback via the less public route of my blog.
